About the Week


    Animal organizations, educational institutions, decision makers and caring citizens  throughout  the state of Tennessee will come together September 22 - September 30, 2007  to make this statewide celebration of animals one that will benefit the animals and bring us all together on the animal's behalf.  The week will include major events throughout the state which will include Memphis, Nashville and Knoxville along with smaller towns and municipalities. Tennessee is the 4th state in the union to dedicate a week to the animals.  Let us all come together throughout the great state of Tennessee for the animals during this very special week. 
 

 
  1. The Animal World is a monthly, free, family-friendly newsmagazine and will be distributed statewide to every library in Tennessee, animal welfare  organizations,   elected officials, decision makers, and agencies. The special publication will be distributed in September as so to make it available during the week.
     

  2. Animals everywhere who can be found in shelters, humane societies, zoos, sanctuaries, law enforcement, therapy and search & rescue will be celebrated.
     

  3. Pet Adoption Events will be held throughout the state in communities everywhere to find homes for Tennes-see's homeless companion animals.
     

  4. School and Library Contests. Young people can express their feelings for animals and compete for prizes.  Winners and their work will be announced in future issues of The Animal World and newspapers throughout Tennessee.
     

  5. Humane Education Emphasis.    Thousands of children throughout Tennessee will learn about the importance of compassion for animals from special   humane education information found in The Animal World, leaders of the animal welfare movement at the events, educators in schools/libraries and those who work directly with the animals. Issues that are important to animal welfare will be highlighted.
     

  6. Blessing of The Animals  events will be highlighted throughout the week in communities across the state of Tennessee.
     

  7. Artists, musicians and writers from Tennessee who help the animals will be featured prominently during this special week. 
     

  8. Awards Ceremonies for distinguished service to the animals will be held honoring those who offer com-passionate leadership for the animals.
     

  9. Opportunities will be created for young people, educators, legislators and animal welfare workers to come together in an unprecedented forum.
     

  10. Relationship Building on behalf of the animals will make this week an important and exciting event for citizens to reach out and make a lifelong difference.
