Dogs 2nd Chance is a 501[c]3 non-profit dog foster group that was founded in the fall of 2007. We are a group of VOLUNTEERS that saw the need to help medium and large mixed breed dogs find permanent loving homes. We have evolved to help any size dogs.
We are NOT a shelter. We receive no government funding and depend on our minimal adoption fees, donations and our own bank accounts. The majority of our  dogs were abandoned, dumped or found running stray. We attempt to  reunite lost dogs with their owners by placing ads in local newspapers  and online classified ads.
Additionally, we rescue dogs from high kill shelters as space allows. We are caring for the castaways by saving one  dog at a time.        http://www.dogs2ndchance.org/

If interested in adopting please fill out an application (insert link to adoption application page) ahead of time for your best chance of taking your new friend home that day!

Proverbs 12:10 Animal Rescue's mission is to provide shelter and loving care for animals who have been abused, abandoned, owner surrendered or otherwise destined to be euthanized due to over-crowded shelter conditions.  At no time shall they be euthanized due to time constraints, medical need or other issues. Through the use of foster homes, Proverbs will provide loving care for our animals, to include veterinary care, food and any other necessity until responsible, loving homes can be found for all adoptable pets. All animals shall be spayed or neutered and we will make every effort to encourage those we encounter to do the same.

~An official Tennessee Week for the Animals event~

Benjamin Hooks/Central Library
3030 Poplar Ave.
Memphis, TN  38111

Saturdays:  West TN Therapy Dogs come in and help to improve the reading skills of the young ones. How does the R.E.A.D.® Program work? It  utilizes registered therapy animals that have been trained and tested for health, safety, appropriate skills and temperament. When these special animals come to hear children read, its fun! This program has been exceptionally successful with West TN Therapy Dogs.

W hy dogs?Animals are ideal reading companions because they help increase relaxation and lower blood pressure, listen attentively, do not judge, laugh or criticize and allow children to proceed at their own pace and are less intimidating than peers.

HALT - Humans & Animals Learning Together
A program assisting at-risk adolescents and shelter dogs.

HALT
C/O Dr. Nancy Howell
College of Veterinary Medicine
The University of Tennessee
2407 River Drive
Knoxville, TN 37996

PURPOSE: To provide a therapeutic intervention for at-risk adolescents through dog obedience training.

OBJECTIVES: To offer adolescents an opportunity to develop a positive sense of accomplishment, self worth and pride.

-To offer adolescents an opportunity to improve specific living skills such as assertiveness, patience, staying on task, communication and commitment.

-To introduce adolescents to career opportunities in animal related fields.
-To provide a successful experience for the adolescents and dogs.
-To increase the adoptability of selected adult dogs through basic obedience training.

Through a series of classes, a canine obedience instructor helps student trainers teach basic obedience commands to dogs from an animal shelter.

Suitable dogs are selected from a local animal shelter and medically and behaviorally screened. They are given a standard series of inoculations, neutered or spayed, and boarded at the class site.

Student trainers are adolescents from residential centers for treatment of substance abuse, behavioral or alienation problems. They are selected by the staff of their agency and are transported to the class site for the classes.

The student trainer commits to one four-week course, meeting two times per week. Up to four agencies may furnish student trainers to work with one group of dogs. They train on different days. The dogs get quality attention each week.  Each dog is placed in a suitable home after graduation. Learn how to establish a prgram in your area on the website. Email nhowell@utk.edu
