Lock-Through Chickamauga Dam Cruise, See Wildlife
Our naturalist identifies wildlife and points of interest as the sun sets. Board the River Gorge Explorer and navigate up river to the Chickamauga Dam on a three-hour sunset cruise. It is rare, not only to see two side-by-side lock projects, but to hear two experts give their perspectives on each. Learn about the construction of the new dam from Jamie James, project manager with the Nashville District Corps of Engineers.
At the Dam, we will be raised and lowered by a system of locks as lock master Matt Emmons provides technical insight about how it all works. Enjoy a complimentary snack on our return to Ross's Landing as our naturalist identifies wildlife and points of interest as the sun sets.
Cash bar with beer, wine and soft drinks. Expected docking time is 7:30 p.m. barring any unpredictable delays due to lock-in boat traffic. In the unlikely event that commercial traffic ties up the lock, we will tour the lock from the down-river side with a narrated look at how it works. https://community.tnaqua.org/sslpage.aspx?pid=656

HALT - Humans & Animals Learning Together
A program assisting at-risk adolescents and shelter dogs.
HALT
C/O Dr. Nancy Howell
College of Veterinary Medicine
The University of Tennessee
2407 River Drive
Knoxville, TN 37996
PURPOSE: To provide a therapeutic intervention for at-risk adolescents through dog obedience training.
OBJECTIVES: To offer adolescents an opportunity to develop a positive sense of accomplishment, self worth and pride.
-To offer adolescents an opportunity to improve specific living skills such as assertiveness, patience, staying on task, communication and commitment.
-To introduce adolescents to career opportunities in animal related fields.
-To provide a successful experience for the adolescents and dogs.
-To increase the adoptability of selected adult dogs through basic obedience training.
Through a series of classes, a canine obedience instructor helps student trainers teach basic obedience commands to dogs from an animal shelter.
Suitable dogs are selected from a local animal shelter and medically and behaviorally screened. They are given a standard series of inoculations, neutered or spayed, and boarded at the class site.
Student trainers are adolescents from residential centers for treatment of substance abuse, behavioral or alienation problems. They are selected by the staff of their agency and are transported to the class site for the classes.
The student trainer commits to one four-week course, meeting two times per week. Up to four agencies may furnish student trainers to work with one group of dogs. They train on different days. The dogs get quality attention each week. Each dog is placed in a suitable home after graduation. Learn how to establish a prgram in yourr area on the website. Email nhowell@utk.edu

We are a large breed Dog & Horse rescue. Located in Middle Tennessee, Almost Home utilizes a network of foster homes to nurture and prepare our rescues for their transition into permanent homes. A dedicated group of approximately 30 volunteers and fosters has allowed us to achieve our current success, and we depend on the kindness of people like you to continue to expand our reach into the community. http://www.almosthomerutherford.com/

Grace St. Luke's The Blessing of the Animals
Grace-St. Luke's Episcopal Church
1720 Peabody Avenue
Memphis, TN 38104-6124
Our annual Blessing of the Animals will be in the church. This popular service is held in honor of St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals, and celebrates the companionship and love God shows us through creation and our animal friends. http://www.gracestlukes.org/
Plan now to bring your finned, feathered or furry friends or your favorite stuffed animal. Each pet will receive an individual blessing. An offering will be taken to support the Friends of Memphis Animal Shelter.
The service is brief and fun and a great time to invite friends and neighbors to come with you. We will serve treats for critters and their owners following the service.

Young-Williams Animal Center’s Pet Food Assistance Program
Young-Williams Animal Village
6400 Kingston Pike
Knoxville, TN 37919
Young-Williams Animal Center’s Pet Food Assistance program is a special way to help pet owners in Knox County temporarily meet the needs of their pets during today’s difficult times. Below are the details about our program.
This program is not designed to be a pet owner’s sole source of pet food but rather to supplement their efforts.
Program Details
-Pet food is only available on the second Saturday of the month between the hours of 8:00am and 10:00 am.
-Only ONE member of a household may apply for and receive pet food.
-Pet food will be provided for no more than three (3) pets.
-Owners must have had their pets for at least three (3) months to receive food for them.
-Owners must show proof that their pets are spayed or neutered OR be willing to have ALL of their dogs and cats altered on the Animal Center’s Spay Shuttle.
-Owners may not add ANY pets to their household while they are receiving food from the pet pantry.
-After the first receipt of pet food, participants must do at least three (3) hours of community service to receive food again. Consider contacting local churches, food kitchens and other non-profit agencies to volunteer your time. Proof of this service should be provided on the day pet food is requested. Proof of service should be in the form of a letter on official letterhead. Information should include the date(s) of service, tasks performed and contact information for your supervisor. Community service may be waived if the applicant is physically unable to do so.
-Applicants must reapply to the program EVERY January and July.
-Young-Williams Animal Center has a right to deny a pet food request at any time for any reason.

There will be snacks for all and some prizes for the pets. Please have animals leashed or in the case of small animals in carrier. Visit St. John's website http://www.stjohnsmemphis.org/
From The Rector The Rev. John W. Sewell: (read his wonderful full statement on website.)
"Welcome to Saint John’s...
This is a place where work is done. Good work, necessary work – soul work. Sometimes out of their pain someone will say, “I can’t go to that church because it is filled with hypocrites!” To such a remark my response is, “You are right and there is always room for a few more.”
The church is called “that sacred mystery” which at times sounds like a fairly ironic thing to say that we should be sacred, set aside for God therefore different. As Flannery O’Connor once said, “You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you odd. We are not about perfection but progress. If you would like such a community, come ahead, there is always room for more. "
